Good Morning!
After spending some time working with a couple of deer, I wanted to dedicate a space to them in the blog. My motive is not other but to make known this species, and in particular, the subspecies that we find in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, which is endemic and from my point of view, is not valued at the level it deserves by the population, although it is certain, that the administrations are beginning to take conscience of what they suppose in these last years. I speak of the Moorish deer (Capreolus capreolus subsp. garganta). Several studies have shown the existence of an own Corzo Andaluz ecotype of Cádiz and Málaga, mainly in the Alcornocales Natural Park, with a climate of Atlantic influence and rich vegetation. At the morphological and genetic level it presents some significant differences that make it separate from other Spanish and European deer populations. These populations constitute the last frontier of the species in its south-western limit. I leave the photos I made to a female of this subspecies.
