SEGOVIA - HOCES DEL RÍO DURATÓN (I)

Buenos días! 

Hoy traigo la primera parte de mi viaje a Segovia hace unas semanas. Y no podía empezar a enseñaros otras fotos que las de este imponente lugar. Las hoces del Río Duratón.

No sé si es por que les tengo especial cariño desde pequeña o porque realmente son un tesoro natural (Yo creo que sin duda ambas cosas). No hace falta volar a miles de kilómetros para conectar con la naturaleza, o proteger los hábitats del otro continente, que está muy bien y es necesario, pero primero o al mismo ritmo, hay que valorar lo que tenemos cerca, más cerca de lo que pensamos. Parece que por estar a dos pasos ya no tiene el mismo valor natural y nos equivocamos.

La hoces del Río Duratón se encuentran en la provincia de Segovia, declaradas Parque Natural por la importancia de sus ecosistemas naturales y valores paisajísticos. 

Sus 25 kilómetros de longitud, repletos de grandes desfiladeros de hasta 100 metros de altura, albergan buitres leonados, alimoches, halcones e incluso águilas reales. En concreto, más de 700 parejas de buitres leonados habitan en este rocoso paisaje, pero de esto os hablaré en el próximo post.

Today I bring the first part of my trip to Segovia a few weeks ago. And I could not begin to show you other photos than those of this imposing place. The sickles of the Duratón River.
I do not know if it's because I have special affection for them since I was a child or because they really are a natural treasure (I believe that both of these are undoubtedly). It is not necessary to fly thousands of kilometers to connect with nature, or protect the habitats of the other continent, which is very good and necessary, but first or at the same pace, we must value what we have close to us, closer to what we think It seems that being two steps away no longer has the same natural value and we are wrong.
The Duratón River gorges are located in the province of Segovia, declared a Natural Park due to the importance of their natural ecosystems and landscape values.
Its 25 kilometers in length, full of great gorges of up to 100 meters high, are home to griffon vultures, Egyptian vultures, hawks and even golden eagles. Specifically, more than 700 pairs of griffon vultures live in this rocky landscape, but I'll talk about this in the next post.

El sitio más visitado de este enclave es la Ermita de San Frutos, una construcción románica fundada por San Frutos, sobre restos de construcciones romanas. Se puede observar un monasterio y cementerio a su alrededor. San Frutos es el patrón de la ciudad de Segovia, y la hermandad de San Frutos, creada en 1992, es la que se encarga actualmente de la conservación de este lugar.

El viento en aquella zona es constante, por lo que necesitas un buen trípode si quieres disparar con velocidad lenta. Lo ideal es ir en horas tempranas, para evitar coincidir con más visitantes y poder disfrutar mejor del entorno. ¿Un consejo? Siéntate en uno de los miradores y, cuando hayas echado fotos, apaga un rato la cámara y disfruta del paisaje, observa las interacciones entre los buitres y respira. También es necesario grabar esa imagen en la cabeza, aparte de en la cámara.

The most visited site of this enclave is the "Ermita de San Frutos", a Romanesque construction founded by San Frutos, on remains of Roman constructions. You can see a monastery and cemetery around it. San Frutos is the patron of the city of Segovia, and the brotherhood of San Frutos, created in 1992, is in charge of the conservation of this place.

I hope you enjoy the photos.

The wind in that area is constant, so you need a good tripod if you want to shoot with slow speed. The ideal is to go in the early hours, to avoid coinciding with more visitors and to be able to enjoy the surroundings better. An advice? Sit in one of the viewpoints and, when you have taken pictures, turn off the camera for a while and enjoy the scenery, observe the interactions between the vultures and breathe. It is also necessary to record that image in the head, apart from in the camera.
