(DICLADISPA TESTACEA) - MINERO DE LA JARA

Hola!

Un domingo más estoy de nuevo por aquí, como sabéis, quincenalmente hay nuevo contenido en el blog. A lo largo de los próximos meses, comenzaré a publicar los posts de mi viaje a Marruecos, fotos y contenido con el que espero hacer volar vuestra mente hacia esas tierras. Fue un viaje magnífico y un lugar mágico al que espero volver pronto.

Hoy no me voy tan lejos en el mapa, a pesar de lo exótico que pueda parecer este pequeño crisomélido. Hace unas semanas, inauguramos una exposición fotográfica de naturaleza en el Real Jardín Botánico de Córdoba, y la fotografía que seleccioné para ella fue de un pariente lejano del protagonista de hoy. 

El motivo de esta elección fue darle valor a toda esa pequeña fauna que pasa desapercibida a menudo.  Por ello me apetecía hablaros de una especie nueva en el blog, de la que no había subido ninguna foto hasta hoy. ¿Te imaginas el mundo visto desde la perspectiva de este coleóptero?

One more Sunday I am here, as you know, every other week there is new content on the blog. Over the next few months, I will begin to publish the messages of My trip to Morocco, photos and content. It was a magnificent and magical trip.

Today I do not go so far on the map, in spite of how exotic this small species may seem. A few weeks ago, we inaugurated a photographic exhibition of nature in the Royal Botanical Garden of Córdoba (Spain), and the photography that I selected for it was a distant future of the protagonist of today.

The reason for this choice had a value in all that small fauna that often goes unnoticed. That's why I liked talking about a new species on the blog, that no pictures had been uploaded to this day. Can you imagine the world seen from the perspective of this coleoptera?

Se trata de una Dicladispa testacea. Cuando hablamos de la familia Chrysomelidae, lo primero que nos viene a la cabeza, es un pequeño coleóptero de llamativos colores, sin embargo, esta especie no se caracteriza precisamente por ello, ya que su coloración es parda rojiza, sino por sus llamativas espinas que recubren toda su región dorsal, el pronoto y los élitros. 

No supera los 5 mm de tamaño, por lo que a priori puede parecer algo dificultoso encontrarlo, pero si prestas atención cuando lo buscas, resalta sobre el fondo verde de las hojas de las cistáceas sobre las que suele situarse. 

It is a Dicladispa testacea. When we speak of the family Chrysomelidae, the first thing that comes to mind, is a small coleoptera of striking colors, however, this species is not precisely characterized by it, as its coloration is reddish brown, but by its striking spines that they cover the entire dorsal region, the pronotum and the elytra.

It does not exceed 5 mm in size, so it may seem somewhat difficult to find it, but if you pay attention when you look for it, it stands out against the green background of the leaves of the cistaceae on which it is usually placed.

Se alimenta de plantas del género Cistus,  por lo que recibe vulgarmente el nombre de Minero de la Jara, aunque también es frecuente verle sobre ejemplares de Phlomis purpurea (matagallo). 

Tanto las larvas como los adultos se alimentan de estas plantas. La hembra realiza una incisión sobre la hoja, donde deposita los huevos y los recubre con excremento para fijarlos. Una vez que eclosiona, la larva, de aspecto aplanado, se introduce a través de la cutícula de la hoja y se alimenta del parénquima. Pupan posteriormente en el interior de la misma.

It feeds on plants of the Cistus genus, for which it receives vulgarly the name of Miner of the "Jara", although it is also frequent to see him on specimens of Phlomis purpurea (matagallo).

Both larvae and adults feed on these plants. The female makes an incision on the leaf, where she deposits the eggs and covers them with excrement to fix them. Once hatched, the larva, of flattened appearance, is introduced through the cuticle of the leaf and feeds on the parenchyma. 

Esta especie se distribuye por toda Europa mediterránea y pueden darse más de 2 generaciones anuales.

A la hora de fotografiarla, no es una especie esquiva, aunque el viento no me acompañó ese día, por lo que estoy deseando volver a salir a fotografiarla.

This species is distributed throughout Mediterranean Europe and can occur more than 2 generations per year.

At the time of photographing it, it is not an elusive species, although the wind did not accompany me that day, so I am looking forward to going out and photographing it again.
