GARCILLA BUEYERA - BUBULCUS IBIS

It is curious that many times we are so used to seeing a species, that it goes completely unnoticed. It turns out that it is not relevant to us when we really do not know anything about it or, on the contrary, we believe that we know everything. But the vast majority of the time, that species has not always been so close. The common heron, or cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis) is a good example of this.
This species has experienced an increase in its distribution in the Iberian Peninsula in recent years, since until relatively recently it was totally absent in the Cantabrian fringe. The adaptation that this species has suffered and its increase has been exponential since the 90s, being currently one of the most abundant birds in the north of the Peninsula. It is estimated that there are approximately 65,000 breeding pairs throughout Spain.
