ATTACUS ATLAS - MARIPOSAS QUE NO COMEN

Buenos días, 

algunos posts atrás (AQUÍ) ya os presenté a esta maravillosa mariposa noctura, la especie Attacus atlas, y hoy vamos a centrarnos más en ella y sobre todo, dejaros disfrutar del resto de fotos que le hice, o espero que así sea.

No puedo comenzar de otra manera sino haciendo mención a su tamaño, ya que es una de las mariposas de mayor envergadura conocidas en el planeta Tierra, por no decir la de mayor tamaño de todas, alcanzando fácilmente los 30 centímetros entre ambos extremos de las alas.

Como la especie del anterior post, la Attacus atlas también pertenece a la familia de lepidópteros productores de seda, en este caso secretando en hilos discontinuos. Muy apreciada por su gran durabilidad y de color café con una textura lanosa es su seda, conocida vulgarmente como "fágara".

Las tradiciones y leyendas eran responsables de que antiguamente se quemaran por curanderos, ya que se creía en su capacidad de curar dolores de espalda con este acto. Sus crisálidas además, eran también utilizadas para la elaboración de carteras, por lo que, con todo esto, ha sido desde hace siglos una especie muy vinculada a la sociedad asiática, de donde es originaria.

some posts back (HERE) I presented to you this wonderful nocturnal butterfly, the species Attacus atlas, and today we are going to focus more on it and above all, stop enjoying the rest of the photos that I have taken, or I hope so.

I can`t begin otherwise but make a reference to its size, and one to the largest butterflies known on planet Earth, not to mention most of all, easily reach 30 degrees between the ends of the wings.

Like the species in the previous post, the Attacus atlas also belongs to the family of silk-producing lepidoptera, in this case secreting in discontinuous threads. Very appreciated for its great durability and brown color with a texture is its silk, commonly known as "fagara".

The traditions and the legends were responsible for the antiquity of the healers, for the healing of the back pains with this act. In addition, we have also used for the development of portfolios, so, with all this, has been for centuries a species closely related to Asian society, where it originates.

Como muchas otras especies de mariposas nocturnas, y también algunas diurnas, no presenta aparato digestivo en su etapa adulta, por lo que no pueden alimentarse, solo las orugas podrán hacerlo. Esto hace que la última fase, adulto, no supere los siete días.

¿Pero tiene entonces alguna ventaja para la supervivencia de esta especie? 
En las primeras fases, su alimentación activa, generalmente basada en hojas de árboles frutales, le permite le permite obtener toda la energía necesaria para completar el ciclo vital. En concreto al macho, que en la fase adulta le permite moverse hábilmente en busca de la hembra, que tras la cópula vuela también hacia un lugar óptimo donde realizar la puesta de huevos.

¿Conocíais esta característica de mariposas sin aparato digestivo?

Like many other species of nocturnal butterflies, and also some diurnal ones, Attacus atlas does not present digestive system in its adult stage, reason why they can not feed, only the caterpillars will be able to do it. This means that the last phase, adult, does not exceed seven days.

But does it have any advantage for the survival of this species?

In the early stages, its active feeding, usually based on fruit tree leaves, allows it to obtain all the energy necessary to complete the life cycle. In particular the male, which in the adult stage allows him to move skillfully in search of the female, who after the copulation also flies to an optimal place where to perform the laying of eggs.
